2025 Girls Inc. National Scholarship Recipient – Annika Squires!
We are thrilled to announce that one of our very own Girls Inc. girls, Annika Squires, has been awarded one of only five Powerade “She’s Got More” Scholarships through the Girls Inc. National Scholarship Program to subsidize the costs of attending University in the fall!
Annika, a Grade 12 student at Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) in Brockville and student trustee for the Upper Canada District School Board, was selected to receive this scholarship as recognition for her commitment to sports and athletics in addition to her involvement in Girls Inc. throughout the years.
Recipients were chosen from a pool of exceptional young women that best embody what Girls Inc. stands for and exemplify how impactful Girls Inc. programming can be. In her application, Annika utilized powerful storytelling and personal advocacy to illustrate her journey to overcoming challenges both in academics and extracurriculars, finding self-confidence and empowerment, and taking on leadership roles in her community. We were flattered to read about how Girls Inc. has made Annika the person that she is, helping her to overcome obstacles and giving her the tools and inspiration she needed to pursue her dreams.
The Girls Inc. National Scholarship Program is extremely competitive, with only 50 women across Canada and the United States receiving scholarships each year. We are so proud of you, Annika, and can’t wait to see all that you continue to accomplish! We are honoured to have been a part of your story, and are in awe of the strong, smart, and bold young woman you have become.
